This park holds the largest viable population of Tahr, and several other species of rare animals, birds, and butterflies. The park offers a magnificent view of the tea plantations and also of the rolling hills caressed by blankets of mist. The park becomes a hot destination when the hill slopes get covered in a carpet of blue, resulting from the flowering of Neelakurinji. It is a plant endemic to this part of the Western Ghats which blooms once in twelve years.
Mattupetty is among the most visited destinations in the tourist hotbed of Munnar. It is a beautiful picnic spot that regularly attracts visitors. The Jewish synagogue was built in 1568, almost 1500 years after the beginning of the Jewish connection with Kerala. The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his third visit to India.
